Denim Trends from TC and Esquire

Denim makes the man, and to make it your own, you gotta think outside your standard blue jeans. We’ve partnered up with Esquire to help make great style an easy task you can accomplish every day. You’re likely no stranger to denim, but today, we’re looking at different ways to wear it this season.

The Weave
If you’ve heard the term selvage (or selvedge) denim thrown around, it simply means that the fabric is “self-finished,” or that it doesn’t need any other kind of hemming or finishing. It’s also woven on a special selvage loom, instead of modern machinery, which leads to a denser, sturdier weave that’s less prone to fraying. It’s often the mark of great quality denim. If you’re the kind of guy that wants to show off his selvage pieces, cuff the ankles to reveal that special self-edge and pair them with a neutral sneaker.

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: Every guy needs a denim jacket. Whether you want to keep it classic or get a little rugged, your jacket is the key to pulling the look together and making it your own. True blue is an option, and black is equally versatile. Seasonally, we like to mix it up with a stand-out, unexpected color like blush or red. Try cuffing up the sleeves for an easy, lived-in vibe.

After you’ve stocked up on well-fitting blues, try branching out to different colors of denim. In the cooler months, we instinctively reach for earthy tones like brown, burgundy, and olive. Not sure what to wear with your pair? It’s as simple as throwing on a neutral shirt. Shades of grey, navy, or white keep the outfit toned down when you’re branching out with nontraditional denim.
