How do I start my own clothing line with very little knowledge?

Every day we receive around 80 enquiries and about 60% of them are from people who have never designed a garment in their lives.

Oftentimes these are people who work at corporate jobs that want to do something new and more exciting (eg: lawyers, office workers, etc.). Also we receive loads of enquiries from stay-at-home parents or new moms, young entrepreneurs, fitness coaches, internet marketers, and more.

Here is a quote from one of my other answers addressing whether there are designers without fashion degrees:

“Many of these enquiries are from stay-at-home mothers, mid-20-something girls who are working but want to follow their passion in creating an appealing clothing brand or line, young men who love high-fashion and want to jump on the custom tees bandwagon or make sports jerseys, and some enquiries are just people who for one reason or another want to create an article of clothing they want to produce en mass because they became inspired to do so.

All you need is some creativity, a specific look/style you want to produce, and the right people to talk to who can help you turn your designs into reality. No further qualifications required.”

Creating a Tech Pack is an essential step when designing your clothing. A tech pack is a document that is your technical specifications for each of your garments. They don’t need to be complicated but they do need to have specific information. Manufacturers expect you to know your garments, and tech packs are the way to communicate your requirements to them.

As you can see, you don’t need to have a degree or get a job somewhere or any of that stuff. Just be inspired, choose your path, then go all-in and take massive action.

Good luck with your new clothing line and have fun! :-)
